What to Wear to a Sigma Gamma Rho Boule
Royal blue and gold, a week of Greater Service and business, and a Boulé photographed start to finish. Here's how to pack for the sessions, the marketplace, the receptions and the banquet — in the colors, and like yourself.
Blue Lurex Maeva Goddess Kaftan
Sigma Gamma Rho has a founding story unlike any other in the Divine Nine: organized on November 12, 1922 by seven educators at Butler University in Indianapolis, it is the only one of the four historically Black sororities founded at a predominantly white institution — service-minded from the very start. Its colors are royal blue and gold, and the Boulé is where the sorority gathers to lead, serve and celebrate.
This guide comes from a Black-owned house built for women who want to be remembered — named Best Resortwear by D Magazine in 2024, worn by Beyoncé and supermodel Iman, and a favorite of Divine Nine women across all four sororities. Sigma Gamma Rho sorors have shopped the Dallas showroom and own multiple pieces.
Royal blue and gold, worn with intention
Let royal blue and gold lead — as real clothing, not a uniform. A royal-blue gown or a gold-touched goddess kaftan reads beautifully at the banquet. Blue separates are sharp for daytime sessions; gold is a gift for evening, catching the light in photos. A print that carries both shades is the smart everyday choice for the marketplace, because it reads as you first and the colors second. Keep the line clean and let the blue-and-gold do the talking.
What the Boule asks for
Business sessions. Long hours — wide-leg trousers with a clean blouse, or a fluid dress, block heel.
Workshops and the marketplace. A shirt dress or a set you can split.
Receptions. Turn the daytime look up — a gold-catching earring, a heel, a clutch.
The banquet. A royal-blue or gold-touched goddess kaftan or gown for dinner, awards and celebration.
The Boule capsule
Build around a royal-blue banquet piece, a blue or printed set you can split, a shirt dress for the marketplace, wide-leg trousers with two blouses, and a silk scarf with gold in it to tie the colors. A block heel for day, a gold sandal for night, a tote and a clutch. That's most of the week from a carry-on — ready for the next regional and your chapter's events. Check the official program before you pack.
