What to Wear to an AKA Regional Conference
A Regional is the Boulé in miniature — your region's chapters together for a few fast days of business, workshops, an awards luncheon and one good banquet. The pink and green still matter, but the pace is tighter, so the win is a small wardrobe that restyles. Here's how to pack it.
Madison Goddess Kaftan
Alpha Kappa Alpha — founded at Howard in 1908, the first sorority established by Black college women — organizes its chapters into regions, and the Regional Conference is where yours comes together each year between Boulés. It's shorter and more working than the Boulé, but no less photographed, and the colors still lead: salmon pink and apple green, worn as real clothing.
This guide comes from a Black-owned house that already lives in AKA circles. Honorary members Tamron Hall and Yolanda Adams have both worn Sai Sankoh, and a verified customer review on the pink-and-green Madison Shirt Dress reads: "I had this for a private tour for the AKAs and everyone loveddddd it." The label was also named Best Resortwear by D Magazine in 2024.
Pink and green for a working week
A Regional leans more daytime-business than the Boulé, so let green do the daytime work and save pink for the evening. A green wide-leg trouser with an ivory blouse reads sharp in a morning session. A printed shirt dress that carries both shades covers the marketplace and the luncheon in one. Then a pink piece — a dress or a draped kaftan — turns up the warmth for the banquet. One print, two solids, and you've got the whole region covered.
What each part of the Regional asks for
Business sessions. Hours of sitting and voting, so comfort wins: wide-leg trousers and a clean blouse, or a fluid dress, with a block heel.
Workshops and committees. You'll move between rooms — a shirt dress or a set you can split keeps you put-together without effort.
The awards luncheon. A seated, photographed midday event — a printed dress that reads polished sitting and standing is the move.
The banquet. The dress-up night. A long pink goddess kaftan or a floor-length dress carries dinner, awards and the after-glow.
A Regional capsule
Regionals are short, so pack for restyling, not for every "what if." Build around one pink banquet piece, one green or printed set you can break apart, a shirt dress for the marketplace, wide-leg trousers with two blouses, and a silk scarf to tie the colors together. A block heel for day, a dressier sandal for night, a tote and a clutch. That's the conference from a carry-on — and every piece earns its place at the next Boulé and your chapter's events too.
