I did not set out to build a fashion house. I set out to make women feel like the best version of themselves. The clothes came after that.

My name is Sai Sankoh. I am the founder, CEO, and creative director of this brand. Everything you see here started with me, a sketchpad, and a stubborn belief that a woman should never have to shrink to fit into what she wears. I built this from nothing. I am still the one drawing the prints.

Let me tell you where I come from. It explains everything.

Where I come from

I was born in Sierra Leone. Before I was grown, I had lived in Sweden, London, and Ghana. I moved to the United States at 15. Four countries before I could vote. Four ways of seeing color, cloth, and celebration.

That is not a small thing for someone who ended up designing prints for a living. In Freetown I saw women wear color like it was a birthright. In Sweden I saw restraint and clean lines. London taught me edge. Ghana gave me pattern, movement, and the joy of dressing for an occasion the way other people dress for a wedding every single day. I carry all of it. When I sit down to design, those places sit down with me.

I also learned early what it feels like to be the new girl. The one who talks differently. The one who does not quite blend in. So I stopped trying to blend in. I decided that if people were going to look, I would give them something worth looking at. That decision is the whole brand, honestly. Never go unnoticed. I have lived it since I was a child.

From nursing to design

Here is the part people do not expect. Before fashion, I was a pediatric nurse.

I spent my days with sick children and worried parents. It was hard, holy work. It taught me things a design school never could. It taught me how to stay calm when someone is scared. It taught me how much a small kindness matters on a bad day. And it taught me that how a person feels is not separate from how they show up in the world. When a child felt brave, they got better faster. Confidence is medicine. I saw it with my own eyes.

Nursing also taught me care. Real care. Checking the details. Not cutting corners when a corner is exactly what would hurt someone. I bring that to every seam and every order that leaves my hands.

So why leave a career that mattered so much? Because I kept noticing the same thing off the clock. When a woman put on the right dress, her whole face changed. She stood taller. She got compliments and did not know what to do with them at first, and then she started to believe them. I wanted to bottle that. I wanted to make it on purpose, for as many women as I could reach. So I taught myself, took the risk, and started designing.

I traded one kind of care for another. I still think that is what I do. I take care of how a woman feels the moment she walks into a room.

Why I design every print myself

We do not buy our patterns from a warehouse of stock designs. Every print you see here begins as original artwork. I make it.

That matters, and here is why. When you wear one of our kaftans on vacation, in a room full of people, and a stranger stops you to ask where it is from, you are not wearing something a hundred other women bought off the same rack. You are wearing art. My art. A print that exists because I sat down and made it exist.

This is the part I will never hand off. I can build a team for everything else. The prints stay mine. When a woman tells me she has never gotten so many compliments in her life, I know exactly why. It is the color. It is the movement. It is the fact that nobody else in that room has it. That is not an accident. That is the work.

I am a woman of faith, and it shapes how I run this company more than any business book ever has.

I try to lead with integrity, excellence, discipline, gratitude, service, and beauty. Those are not words on a wall for me. Excellence is why I will not ship something I would not wear myself. Service is why the customer always wins when there is a hard call to make. Gratitude is why I still get a little emotional when a woman sends a photo from her trip and says this made her feel beautiful. I do not take a single one of those messages for granted.

I build systems so the care never depends on my mood or my calendar. The standard is the standard, whether I am in the room or not.
