What to Wear to a Black Sorority Conference

Whichever letters you wear, the week looks similar: business sessions, workshops, a marketplace, networking, and a banquet — all photographed. This is the master guide to dressing it well, in your colors, with the pieces that carry a full conference from morning to the after-party.

A Sai Sankoh look for a Black sorority conferenceGoddess Kaftan

Sai Sankoh is a Black-owned house that the women of all four historically Black sororities already wear — which is the whole reason this guide exists. AKA honorary members Tamron Hall and Yolanda Adams have worn the label (and sorors review the pink-and-green Madison Shirt Dress by name). Delta counts April Ryan, K. Michelle and Pat Smith among its members who've worn it, plus custom crimson-and-cream looks made with Deltas at the Dallas showroom. Zeta's International President, Dr. Stacie NC Grant, hosted a pop-up at the showroom. And Sigma Gamma Rho sorors shop it too. The 3,000-square-foot Dallas showroom regularly hosts Divine Nine and Black-society gatherings — from AKA receptions to a collection modeled by Delta members to Jack and Jill events. It's also D Magazine's Best Resortwear 2024, worn by Beyoncé and Iman.

So this isn't generic conference advice — it's from the house your sorors keep choosing.

Your colors

Dress your letters, the grown-up way

Lead with your colors as real clothing, not a costume. AKA: salmon pink and apple green. Delta: crimson and cream. Zeta: royal blue and white. Sigma Gamma Rho: royal blue and gold. The move is the same across all of them: one strong piece in your color, a clean silhouette, and an original print that reads as you first and the letters second. Save the boldest color for the banquet and let neutrals carry the working days.

The week

What a conference asks for

Business sessions. Comfort for long hours — wide-leg trousers and a clean blouse, or a fluid dress.

Workshops & marketplace. A shirt dress or a set you can split.

Networking. Daytime look, turned up with a strong earring, a heel and a clutch.

Banquet. A long goddess kaftan or gown in your color.
